EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM HAS HELPED MANY LOCAL FAMILIES IN NEED THANKS TO THE GENEROSITY OF THE PETOSKEY HARBOR SPRINGS AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AND MANY CARING SUPPORTERS
August 26, 2020, Petoskey, MI- The Salvation Army received a $15,000.00 grant through the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation, Fund for the Community, Buzzelli Family Charitable Fund, Circuit Controls Corporation Charitable Fund, Ted and Brenda Frey Donor Advised Fund, William and Louise Graham Fund, Birchwood Outreach Fund, VandenBrink Biddick Family Fund, Byers Family Charitable Fund, and Ann K. Irish Charitable Fund to provide emergency financial assistance to low-income residents in Emmet County.
The Salvation Army’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program provides low-income individuals and families with necessities such as heat, electricity, rent, emergency car repair and more. The money came at a great time as there was a lapse in funding from other sources while there were many families waiting to get their propane refilled so they could have heat, and others waiting for their power to be turned back on so they could cook and wash clothes. Last year, EFAP provided more than $330,000 of emergency financial assistance to people in their three-county service area; more than $150,000 of that amount went to Emmet County residents.
Envoy, Greg Irwin says “Without the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation and the generosity of so many caring supporters, The Salvation Army would not be able to meet the needs of the individuals and families who come to us for help and hope- especially now while so many have lost employment due to COVID-19. We are very fortunate to live in a community that demonstrates the important lesson to “love they neighbor”; by coming together to ensure that no one is left out in the cold”.
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination.
