GENEROUS INDIVIDUALS AND FOUNDATIONS SUPPORT RENOVATIONS FOR NEW REGIONAL COMMUNITY CENTER TO EXPAND CRITICAL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
The Salvation Army of Petoskey is very blessed to receive money from compassionate community-minded individuals and foundations to help with needed repairs, updates and renovations for a new Regional Community Center which will become the central hub of operations for all Salvation Army programs and services for Emmet, Charlevoix and Antrim Counties. This includes emergency financial assistance for utilities and other critical human needs such as food and shelter; Child, senior and family self-sufficiency programs; addiction recovery support; holiday assistance and more.
The Frey Foundation awarded The Salvation Army a $20,000.00 grant; the Charlevoix County Community Foundation awarded $20,000 and the Oleson Foundation awarded $30,000 for renovations to the facility while Huntington Bank awarded $10,000.00 for a new telecommunications system that will improve communication and efficiency for clients in need of assistance.
Many generous individuals contributed to the renovations of the Regional Community Center. Some targeted specific areas such as the commercial kitchen that is being donated by Susie and John Graff in John’s memory or the children’s playground that is being donated by Neil and Marsha Bidwell. Others have given generously to unspecified areas of the project including the Mugwump Foundation, David and Teresa Crouse, Dave and Barbara Young, Dr. Louis and Mary Jane Zako, Meyer Ace, Petoskey Rotary Sunrise and many other kind supporters who wish to remain anonymous.
Roman Hank, Corps Administrator says “The renovation and expansion of vital programs and services couldn’t come at a better time considering the increased and increasing number of families needing those services. The new Regional Community Center will allow us to continue meeting the needs of struggling families for years to come”.
Although The Salvation Army of Petoskey has received many generous gifts, they still need help in reaching the fundraising goal of $997,000. The Regional Community Center will provide solutions to current structural issues that have been limiting the quality and capacity of many programs and services due to the limitations of the current location. It is barrier free, has enough parking space for the public, green space for outdoor play and has the capacity to expand critical services such as Community Meals, and Children’s programming. The current structure located at 712 Pleasant Street is listed for sale through Real Estate One.
