MEYER’S ACE HARDWARE ROUND-UP PROGRAM RAISES MONEY FOR SALVATION ARMY PROGRAMS THAT HELP STRUGGLING LOCAL HOUSEHOLDS DECEMBER 8TH – 14TH
DECEBER 3, 2024 Northern, MI- Meyer’s Ace Hardware is offering to round-up purchase totals to donate to The Salvation Army of Petoskey at their two Petoskey and Harbor Springs locations the week of December 8th. This comes at a critical time for The Salvation Army of Petoskey since its Red Kettle Campaign is off to a slow start, currently tracking over $4,000 under what they were last year at this time. The campaign is a vital source of funding for The Salvation Army which is not only used for holiday assistance, but mainly for many year-round programs and services such as food pantry, hot meals, senior programs, Emergency Disasters and the Emergency Financial Assistance Program (EFAP).
EFAP provides assistance with heat, electricity, food, rent and other basic human survival needs that threaten a household’s livelihood or individuals ability to maintain a stable household. Because the need for assistance has risen and inflation has increased the cost needed to stabilize each household, the amount of emergency financial assistance given has tripled post pandemic, yet donations have decreased.
Jonathan Meyer says “The Meyer Family supports The Petoskey Salvation Army for the meaningful programs it provides for our community members most in need. Please join us in rounding up during the season of giving to support our local community”.
Last fiscal year, The Salvation Army of Petoskey disbursed $751,498 in emergency financial assistance and provided an additional $96,667 in leveraged utility assistance through case management services. Government resources controlling leveraged funding were down from the prior year resulting in a total of $848,165 of assistance that went to neighbors in need.
“Without your help, we may not be able to provide rent, utilities and other critical survival needs for many struggling individuals and families who desperately reach out to us for help” says Envoy Roman Hank. “If you are unable to give at a Red Kettle location, you can give online at SAPetoskey.org, stop in at our new Community Center located at 2350 Mitchell Park Drive in Petoskey, call (231) 347-3531 or you can start your own virtual Red Kettle fundraiser by following the prompts on our website or Facebook page”.
