NORTHERN KNIGHTS MOTORCYCLE CLUBS ANNUAL TOY RUN RAISED $13,967.00 TO RESCUE CHRISTMAS FOR CHILDREN IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN
December 28, 2020, Petoskey, MI- Local biker group, Northern Knights, raised $13,967.00 to provide needy children in Emmet, Cheboygan, Antrim, and Charlevoix Counties Christmas gifts through The Salvation Army of Petoskey and Cheboygan. Although it may be surprising to some that a group of bikers has such compassion for children, it comes to no surprise to The Salvation Army since the Northern Knights have been doing this for 32 years now.
This year the money was needed more than ever as we served 162 more children than we did last year due to the abundance of struggling families from the toll Covid-19 has taken on our economy. Many hard-working families had to reach out for the first time to seek assistance. One mother who thanked us repeatedly explained “We’ve always done okay… we never had a lot, but we had a little saved and always had enough for vacations and holidays, but since my husband was laid off, we only had enough to pay our bills and are barely able to do that. We just didn’t have any extra for Christmas this year. I felt so horrible that I had nothing for my children- my youngest still believes in Santa… what would I tell him?”
Envoy, Greg Irwin said “We are very grateful for the Northern Knights who helped us provide a very Merry Christmas to many children living in Antrim, Charlevoix and Emmet Counties- some who would not have received any gifts on Christmas morning otherwise; especially this year when the need is greater than ever. I pray that 2021 ends this pandemic early on so families and businesses can recover and we are able spend our next Thanksgiving and Christmas together with our loved ones once again without fear of illness”. In harmonious spirit, Roman Hank added “I wish to thank all the men and women of the Northern Knights MC for unwavering support they give to The Salvation Army of Cheboygan County. We would not be able to provide for the children without you”.
Brian Fettig, President of Northern Knights simply said “we do it for the kids”. The Northern Knights would like to thank the many local businesses who stepped up despite the Covid related economic struggles this year and every prior year they have given, making the event successful over the last 32 years.
