OFFICE FURNITURE FOR NEW COMMUNITY CENTER PROVIDED BY GREAT LAKES ENERGY
The Salvation Army - Petoskey is in the process of renovating a new Community Center after outgrowing its current facility which is no longer equipped to handle the steadily increasing amount of need which has more than doubled over the last 3 years in its tri-county service area. The larger building not only has the capacity to increase needed programs and services, but it is also barrier free, has increased parking, green space for children’s programs, a loading dock and mobile unit for transportation, senior, food delivery programs and more. Renovation plans include revisions and expansion of office space to create room for existing and future staffing needs.
Aside from renovations, the building needs to be furnished with undamaged, comfortable, sturdy furniture that will allow staff to work safely and efficiently. Furniture being used in the current building was originally donated through The Salvation Army Thrift Store. Most of the furniture was obtained over a decade ago and is scratched, torn and in some instances crumbling.
Thanks to the Great Lakes Energy People Fund, The Salvation Army is supplying 12 offices with comfortable, ergonomic office furniture so essential staff can best serve the overwhelming increase in clients and need for services such as senior and children’s’ services and transportation, food services, utility, rent and other emergency financial services and more. Just two years ago Great Lakes Energy People Fund also helped replace folding chairs for the Community Room where many children’s, senior and other group activities take place. The People Fund is a voluntary round-up program offered to all Great Lakes Energy customers with proceeds going to many vital non-profit organizations in our region.
