PETOSKEY SALVATION ARMY NEEDS ANGEL TREE DONATIONS FOR LOCAL CHILDREN

Oct 18, 2024

The Salvation Army of Petoskey is requesting donations for the Angel Tree program through December 13th. The Angel Tree program provides new toys and gifts for Christmas to children ages birth through 12th grade through Toy Shop and Toy Lift programs. Toy Shop provides an opportunity for parents of disadvantaged children to choose appropriate presents for them on appointed days and times. Toy Lift allows incarcerated parents to provide their children with Christmas gifts. The Salvation Army wraps the gifts and mails them to the children as if the parent were sending the gifts themselves, so it strengthens their bond and lessens the sadness of not being able to have their parents’ home with them on Christmas morning.

Angel Tree gifts are often the only Christmas presents that the applicants children receive. Parent often must make difficult decisions on whether they should put food on the table, keep the lights on, heat their home, have a roof over head, have adequate medical care or have presents for their children on Christmas morning. The Salvation Army not only assists with gifts, but also provides food vouchers to Oleson’s Food Stores so families can enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas meals together. Considering the high rate of inflation, Holiday Assistance will be even more in demand and more critical to the families served this year.

“Your gifts mean the world to kids who feel lonely or forgotten” says Envoy Roman Hank. “Just imagine the joy and laughter Christmas morning when they find gifts under the tree, reminding them that they are precious and loved”.
