THE SALVATION ARMY RED KETTLE CAMPAIGN SHARES LOVE BEYOND CHRISTMAS TO ENSURE STRUGGLING NEIGHBORS ARE CARED FOR YEAR ROUND

November 13, 2023, Petoskey, MI - The Salvation Army of Petoskey is marching into the holiday season but instead of playing drums they are ringing bells for struggling local families in need. The 2023 Red Kettle Campaign kickoff began on Friday, November 3rd, but more locations are opening through December in Emmet, Charlevoix and Antrim Counties. Red Kettle donations support many local year-round programs and services that provide heat, electricity, rent assistance, food, shelter, emergency auto repair, children and senior programs and more.

Red Kettle Campaign Chairman David Meyer is hosting a Red Kettle at Meyer Ace’s downtown location during the Petoskey Holiday Parade on Saturday, November 25th at 6PM and also during Petoskey’s Holiday Open House which is being manned by Little Traverse Bay Kiwanis on Friday, December 1st at 6PM. The Charlevoix Lion’s Club will be hosting a Red Kettle in their Tree Lot located at Charlevoix Ace Hardware November, 24th – December 23rd . The Emmet County Realtors Association is ringing during the Harbor Springs Open House on Saturday, December 2nd at 6PM and ringing begins at Harbor Springs IGA on Black Friday, November 24th. Double your donation on Giving Tuesday, November 28th when you donate to Walmart’s grocery kettle where Fletch’s GMC Buick Audi is matching $500 or Oleson’s Petoskey kettle where Dave Kring Chevrolet is matching $2,500.

Walmart’s Red Kettles open Saturday, November 18th which is also the day for donating to “Stuff a Blue Goose” (State Police vehicle) with toys and food for The Salvation Army’s Toy Shop and pantry that is put on by State Police Community Service Trooper Corey Hebner. It is also the day you can find the Angel Tree at Walmart and the Crooked Tree Arts Center – Box Office to donate toys for the Christmas Toy Shop during regular their business hours through December 18th.

“What better time of year to share God’s love with others in our community” says Envoy Roman Hank. Our greatest joy is in reminding struggling neighbors that they matter and they are loved. No one, especially children or seniors should feel forgotten over the holidays.”.

Upcoming Holiday Assistance services include: food vouchers to Oleson’s Food Stores for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals; Angel Tree Toy Shop for families with school-aged children; Toy Lift which brings joy to children of incarcerated parents and Adopt a Family that provides gifts for an entire family. In addition, The Salvation Army partners with Walmart and local first responders to provide selected children with $100 gift cards to “Shop with a Hero” to buy Christmas presents for their family members. Struggling families who are not already signed up for assistance can apply online at SAangeltree.org beginning on Monday, November 27th through Tuesday, December 12th.
