STUFF THE BUS 2025

Join the effort to equip local children with essential school supplies and set them up for academic success.

The Salvation Army of Petoskey is launching its annual 'Stuff the Bus' campaign to collect school supplies for children from low-income families. Donations will be accepted now through Monday, August 18th at the Community Center located at 2350 Mitchell Park Drive, Petoskey, during regular business hours. Additionally, collection bins will be available at Wal-Mart in Petoskey from Friday, August 8th through Sunday, August 17th.

Flyers listing needed supplies will be placed at collection bins near checkout areas. For those who prefer to shop online, please scroll below for the shopping list or CLICK HERE TO SHOP THE REGISTRY ONLINE THROUGH WALMART to have items shipped directly to The Salvation Army of Petoskey.

As summer transitions into the school season, many families face mounting financial pressure due to rising costs of school supplies. This burden affects children, parents, and teachers alike—impacting academic readiness, household stress, and classroom resources. Envoy Roman Hank says “This year we are anticipating an increase in the number of families reaching out for support due to the rising cost of supplies and we need your help to meet that increasing need”.

While some children eagerly anticipate back-to-school shopping and reconnecting with friends, others experience anxiety and embarrassment due to a lack of basic supplies. “Every child deserves the opportunity to feel confident and excited about starting the school year,” says Jenni Hand, a teacher at Pellston Middle School.

Donations from Stuff the Bus are distributed during The Salvation Army Backpack Giveaway and to schools across Emmet, Charlevoix, and Antrim Counties. This year’s Backpack Giveaway will be held on Saturday, August 23rd from 12–4 PM at The Salvation Army Community Center. Supplies are also delivered directly to schools, ensuring timely and confidential support for students throughout the academic year.

The Salvation Army of Petoskey provides year-round assistance with essentials such as food, rent, utilities, and more. Services are offered without discrimination based on faith, gender, orientation, nationality, or other factors.
