Lite 96.3, Petoskey Rotary Club of Little Traverse Bay Sunset, Walmart and Many Generous Community Members Help Local Children in Need

PETOSKEY, MI, August 29, 2022 – Many community members joined forces to provide new school supplies to hundreds of local children in need during the “Stuff the Bus” campaign event at the Petoskey Walmart on August 19th and 20th. Tim Nixon from Lite 96.3 was there to kick off the event along with Rotary members of the Sunset club who graciously handed out flyers that listed the needed school supplies on both days resulting in more than 10,000 collected school supplies with an estimated value of more than $7,500.00.

“We are so blessed to live in such a generous community. Because of their support, many kids will start the school year off right with the supplies they need.” said Envoy, Greg Irwin from The Salvation Army of Petoskey. Walmart’s General Manager, David Mitchell added “Thank you to all community members who provided school supplies for local kids in need”.

All “Stuff the Bus” donations will be distributed to local children in need. The majority of the supplies collected will be distributed through the Petoskey Public Schools. By allowing the schools to have the supplies on hand, children will have them immediately accessible and will not feel the shame of not having the same items their peers have. There will also be a few supplies distributed to school-aged children enrolled in the Bible Adventure Corps program. Bible Adventure Corps is a program that caters to children of low-income families. The program is open daily after school while Petoskey Public Schools are in session. It provides snacks, transportation, homework help, field trips and more so parents can continue working.
