THE SALVATION ARMY RECEIVES GRANT TO HELP BRING “THE ILLUSIONIST” TOM COVERLY TO LOCAL SCHOOLS
May 11, 2018, Petoskey, MI- The Salvation Army received a $6,000.00 grant through the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation, Youth Endowment Grants Fund, Maggie and Bob Charlton Family Fund, Birchwood Outreach Fund, and Dan and Linda CasaSanta Family Fund to help bring The Illusionist, Tom Coverly to local schools.
Tom Coverly is a professional comedian, illusionist and motivational speaker. He has performed for millions around the world, has been seen on TV (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX), and has shared his story on numerous radio stations around the country. Tom amazes students with illusions, then captures hearts with powerful messages against bullying, suicide and the many issues that often accompany those struggles such as self-cutting or substance abuse, while reinforcing the importance of self-esteem and having respect for others.
Tom Coverly will perform at separate middle-school and high school assemblies followed by an evening performance in each location that is open to parents and the public. The performances begin in Harbor Springs on October 15, then Charlevoix on October 16, Petoskey High School October 17 and Petoskey Middle School October 18. Petoskey’s evening performance will take place on October 18th.
Envoy, Greg Irwin says “I highly recommend that anyone raising middle to high-school aged children attend an evening performance. Although school counselors will be present during the assemblies to ensure the students have trained professionals to talk to, they really need your love and support going forward to make a positive lasting impact on their lives. Additional support will be available during evening performances in the form of youth pastors from local churches and leaders of other faith-based organizations such as Young Life. None of the school assemblies will have any mention of politics or religion in respect to school regulations; however, the complimentary evening shows will be faith-based without discrimination.
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
