RENT ASSISTANCE

Rental payments may be provided to households:

  • Who have a proven ability to maintain housing.
    • You must have a history of maintaining this residence. This program does not assist with deposits.
    • A Household income greater than or equal to 2 times the rent to show that the living situation is affordable. For example: if rent is $500, income should be $1,000 or more.
  • Had a now resolved financial emergency that made it impossible to pay the rent but once stable, the rent payments can be maintained going forward.
    • You must be able to clearly show documentation of the emergency AND the cost of it. This is not the amount you owe to the landlord, but what emergency kept you from paying the rent and what the cost of that emergency was. Some examples are, a paid receipt from a business for emergency car repair required to travel to work, or documentation of unpaid time off work due to illness. Everyday expenses such as utility bills & groceries are not considered an emergency under this program.
  • Balance owed of 2-months’ rent or less.

If determined eligible, the level of assistance provided is based on the financial emergency, the households’ ability to pay a portion themselves, and the funding available.

UTILITY ASSISTANCE

Utility payments may be provided to households:

  • With a total balance owed of $500 or less. This includes late fees, reconnect fees and balances on a payment arrangement. Maximum assistance amount towards utilities is $250.
  • At the address they are currently living in. This program does not assist with deposits.
  • A documented and verifiable financial emergency is not required to apply for this assistance; however, priority is given to households where a financial emergency made paying for the utility bill not possible.
