We Fight Poverty With Love.

Through programs that serve the body, mind and soul, we alleviate the symptoms of poverty, then work to address the root issues that cause it.

How we help overcome poverty

Poverty is often the result of, and catalyst for, chronic struggles with hunger, addiction, housing insecurity, mental illness, unemployment, educational voids, and various forms of abuse. These interconnected issues continue year after year and generation after generation. That's why we work to meet the needs of the whole person through short- and long-term assistance. Through programs that serve the body, mind and soul, we alleviate the symptoms of poverty, then work to address the root issues that cause it.

Pathway of Hope

If you feel like your family is struggling or like you are stuck and cannot seem to move forward, the Pathway of Hope may prove to be a good first step towards a brighter future for you and your children. Eligible families must simply have children under the age of 18 and be ready and willing to take action to change their circumstance. Upon enrollment, the Downriver Salvation Army team will work alongside you and your family to not only assess your family’s needs and connect you to needed resources in the community, but also help you to set goals and map out a plan to stay on track and to achieve those goals. Our team will encourage you throughout your journey and celebrate your successes along with you until you are ready to step out into a better future for yourself and your family.

Food Pantry

Our food pantry is provided to eligible clients on a 30-day basis. Food boxes generally consist of canned goods and non-perishable food items. Minimal toiletries are also provided upon request if available at time of appointment. Food boxes are provided by appointment only during open office hours.

Energy Assistance

The Salvation Army (TSA) Energy Assistance Services (EAS) is a program committed to helping individuals and families who qualify through the State Emergency Relief (SER) under the Department Of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The TSA EAS program pays a client copay or utility usage responsibility portion of their bill to help keep their services on, whether it is heat, electricity or both. The aid TSA  provide is developed to help people make it through a crisis or unexpected emergency, such as a medical emergency or job loss.

One of the major assistance programs offered through our Energy Assistance Services is the Affordable Payment Plan (APP) for qualified energy customers. This particular energy assistance service provide an affordable monthly energy bill payment method and offers forgiveness on their past-due utility balance.

APP is geared toward low and or fixed monthly income households.
