HOW TO HELP THE SALVATION ARMY OF FOND DU LAC

237 N. Macy St., Fond du Lac, WI 54935 / 920 923-8220 / FDLSAinfo.salvationarmy.org / www.safdl.org

With the need to shelter at home and ‘social distance’ to halt the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), many in our community have had work hours reduced, been laid off or let go.  We’ve been asked for ways to help us serve now, during a time when our community needs us so much more. Here are some ideas:

Volunteer. Many of our volunteers are the highly vulnerable to coronavirus and we support their need to step back from serving.  In light of this we do have opportunity for those who would like to volunteer and are not highly vulnerable to coronavirus to serve alongside us.

Donate supplies, differently.  The Wisconsin Department of Health Services  Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) instructed food pantries to discontinue accepting in kind donations unless they are from the retailers themselves.   While this is important to the safety of our volunteers and employees, it  means significant gaps on our supply shelves at a time when we must be ramping up supplies. As many as 1300 households have used the pantry in one month and our Social Service team projects the COVID-19 crisis will set a new pantry use record.

We already see increased demand for:      Food and supply donations,  gas cards/fuel only $10 increments, personal care/hygiene products and cleaning/disinfecting supplies.

To help:

Shop retailers online & have the items delivered to our Corps office at 237. North Macy St.  Donate through our Walmart Registry:

https://www.walmart.com/registry/registryforgood/b5ec2bcb-adec-4681-88e1-c54a0b877d41/view

Purchase gift cards from local retailers/restaurants and route them to us.   These gift cards will help serve our clients AND our local economy.

Donate Monetarily Online or by Mail. The quickest and safest way to help those in need is to donate monetarily online at www.safdl.org or mail a check to The Salvation Army, 237 N Macy St., Fond du Lac, WI 54935 and in the memo write "CV19 Help."    An anonymous donor will MATCH up to $125,000 in donations made to Salvation Army's in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, including Fond du Lac, through May 31 https://donate.salvationarmywi.org/WUMCovid19Donations.

Create Your Own Online Fundraiser at FundraiseForGood.org, and make a powerful impact! With a few quick steps, you can create a fundraiser, set a goal, write your own story of why you’re helping, and then share among friends, family and acquaintances.

Encourage Others to Help. Helping our neighbors in need has always been a community effort, and that’s never been truer than now. The coronavirus impacts every individual. Many now struggle more than ever to pay their bills and put food on the table because their work hours have been reduced or they’ve been laid off indefinitely.  It might be a relative, or your next-door neighbor.  So, if you care able to donate money or supplies and help our neighbors, please do so.  And ask your friends and family to do the same.  They may be looking for how to help and will appreciate hearing from you.

Donate Social Media Posts. We support the causes we know and understand so help us share how The Salvation Army is helping. Consider donating a social media post. This could mean posting about how you have donated and/or volunteered, or it could mean sharing a post from The Salvation Army of Fond du Lac Facebook with our website safdl.org inside.

Thank you!
