Breaking the cycle of homelessness and gaining financial independence is a key part to our housing programs. Here are the programs offered at our Fox Cities Corps:
Our Onsite and Rapid Rehousing programs assist individuals and families that struggle with homelessness. We have 11 onsite apartments for single homeless men and women, as well as 12 scattered sites for homeless families. Case management support includes areas of money management, health, employment, and daily living skills. Here are some of the ways we help:
Ashley was struggling with a drug addiction as well as her fiance's death. After completing treatment and now being a new mom, she's very thankful for the TBRA program and her new apartment. She is happy to start a new journey and raise her daughter in a stable environment.
Our Housing Retention program provides financial assistance and case management to support up to 12 families with children currently in housing but recently faced with financial hardships. The focus of our program is to provide up to 12 months of financial and case management support to help stabilize and retain their housing.
In 2018, 100% of the 19 households helped were able to keep their home.
Kari is a single mother of two. She was making ends meet working as a caregiver until she started having some unexpected health problems. She needed to take time off work and eventually needed surgery. Home Retention was able to assist her for three months so she could heal. She is grateful for the short-term help that lessened the worry about losing the roof over her family's head. Kari now has a future goal to donate to another family in need.
Pathway of Hope is a strengths-based opportunity for families with children looking to break the cycle of crisis. Families in the program develop a plan of action to achieve their goals with the support of case management and ministry staff. To qualify, families must have at least one child under the age of 18, live in the Fox Cities, and have the motivation to move out of the cycle of crisis.
Of the 22 households that broke through the cycle of crisis, 71% own or rent their units with no subsidies.
Felicia is a single mother of an 8-year old boy who left a domestic violence situation. She began the Scattered-Site Housing program from homelessness. Felicia transitioned to Pathway of Hope and continued to increase her houses and take classes at Fox Valley Technical College. We are happy to report that she is continuing to work with the Almost Home program to become a home buyer, and she is also working with the Appleton Housing Authority FSS Program to save up for a down payment. She has future goals of going back to school for Occupational Therapy to further her career.
