The Salvation Army's mission shines brightest at Christmastime. And this holiday season, the need is greater than ever. 2020 has been hard for families across the country. For those struggling to pay rent or put food on the table after a job loss, Christmas may seem out of reach. You can help us Rescue Christmas by spreading hope, love and joy to the less fortunate members of society.
COVID-19 / Coronavirus Response
In these times of uncertainty, we stand strong, providing hope and help to those who need it. From emergency assistance to free food and home goods pantries, to providing shelter and meals, to lending an ear through our emotional and spiritual support hotline, to supporting local government and first responders, we remain here to serve. We continue to protect our volunteers, donors, clients, staff and other supporters by following CDC and local government requirements. Learn more about our "new normal".
Iconic red kettles usually signal the start of the holiday season. Donations collected in these buckets support the services in your neighborhood. Bell ringers are both seasonal employees and volunteers. Learn more about Bell Ringing or Register to Ring now. Kettle Pay means contactless giving is available, but the pandemic means there are fewer red kettles and fewer shoppers. Now until January 31, you can help online by becoming a fundraiser or donating through our Virtual Red Kettle.
When a family is struggling financially, holiday gifts are often not feasible. Our Angel Tree program allows generous friends like you to purchase gifts and necessities for neighbors in need, making their holidays brighter. You can shop online or in-person. Be an angel for a family in need this Christmas.
The Salvation Army provides Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for families unable to create a special meal themselves. Several community centers will have to-go holiday meals this year to provide Christmas spirit in a safe manner.
The Salvation Army Freedom Center hosts a food pantry for neighbors in the 60651 and 60624 zip codes. Families are invited to come shop our pantry for a grocery order once a month. Pantry Hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays - 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Tuesdays/Thursdays 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (noon).
