National Volunteer Month Spotlight: The Milwaukee Admirals
The Milwaukee Admirals have been known to bring their A-game to the ice but three years ago they brought it to The Salvation Army. Most recently, the Admirals front office staff assisted with sorting, hanging and organizing hundreds of coats for our Coat Distribution in January. Through that event, The Salvation Army was able to give 2,062 coats to kids in need. We spoke with Jon Greenberg, President of the Admirals organization, to learn more about the professional hockey team and how they helped make an impact on The Salvation Army:
Q. What drew the Milwaukee Admirals to The Salvation Army to volunteer?
A. We’ve long been aware of the great work The Salvation Army does in our community and wanted to get involved when we saw a need. Our organization, from top to bottom, believes in giving back to the community which supports us so well and this was a great fit for us.
Q. Which of our programs have the Admirals assisted with?
A. The Admirals staff has helped with sorting out books (for Toy Shop) as well as the coat sorting.
Q. How long has the Admirals been volunteering with The Salvation Army?
A. The past three years.
Q. How did The Admirals first learn about The Salvation Army?
A. The Salvation Army has had a very visual presence in our community for decades. We certainly have learned more about the volunteer opportunities through the outreach that The Salvation Army has done to companies such as ours and those two things together gave us the knowledge that we could make a difference.
Q. What has been the group's favorite experience at The Salvation Army?
A. Our favorite experience has been knowing that what we are doing to help is making a difference to those in need in our community.
Q. What is one thing you believe the world should know about The Salvation Army?
A. That there are really good people in our community who work and volunteer for The Salvation Army who do so selflessly to make a difference.
Q. What are three words you would use to describe The Salvation Army?
A. Dedicated. Selfless. Impactful.
The Salvation Army is so thankful for all of the time they donate to us especially during the busiest times of the year. April is National Volunteer Month and we wanted to share how special the Milwaukee Admirals and all of our volunteers are to us. Join us weekly throughout the month of April to hear more about our incredible volunteers.
