The Art of the Red Kettle: Sami Mooney
Sami Mooney has been shopping from and donating to The Salvation Army since she was a teenager. Sami loves that discarded items can be given new life. It keeps them out of landfills and helps the community in the process.
The concept for her kettle comes from the idea that Jesus is the light that guides us safely home; much the way a lighthouse guides a ship. In keeping with the idea of giving new life to discarded items, many of the materials used in this project were found or recycled.
Why did you want to participate in The Art of the Red Kettle?
This was honestly a passion project for me. I have a BFA in Fine Arts, but because of life, I never really did anything with it until recently. It was very liberating to create something out of nothing.
What is your favorite aspect of The Salvation Army?
I love that discarded items can be given new life. It keeps them out of landfills and helps the community in the process.

Each day until the Milwaukee County Red Kettle Kickoff, we will feature each of the artists participating in The Art of the Red Kettle. At the end of our friendly competition, there will be three artists who win the titles of Most Social Media Likes, Most Funds Raised, and Most Creative. You can help us decide!
