The Salvation Army's Echelon To Host “Served” Event for Homeless Families
WHAT: For the third year, the emerging professional volunteer group, Echelon MKE will host a five-star dining experience for homeless families and individuals staying in The Salvation Army's Emergency Lodge. A menu of salad, rolls, sirloin steak or vegetable lasagna, garlic mashed potatoes and cheesecake will be served to 120 residents. Money raised at Echelon’s Dinner in the Alley, held in July 2018, will support the financial cost of this event.
WHEN: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14. While the dinner takes place on Thursday, November 15, it is off-limits to media coverage to protect the privacy of our residents. Alternatively, we invite you to the set-up event on Wednesday, to watch as the Emergency Lodge dining room is transformed into an upscale restaurant atmosphere.
WHERE: The Salvation Army Emergency Lodge, 1730 N 7th St, Milwaukee, WI 53205
WHY: This event has had a huge impact on both the residents and volunteers in previous years. For many residents, it is the first experience to have a meal that has been plated and served to them. For many of the volunteers, it is a chance to see the impact of fundraising projects throughout the year and to realize that when we really just get to know our fellow-man, we are more alike than different.
MORE: This event could not be possible without support:
- Title Sponsor, Gordon Food Services
- Majic Productions, lighting and drapery for the event
- Roundy's, monetary donations for flowers and some additional supplies
- Milwaukee Public School Pro-Start program will be cooking the food
- Jake Sippel (guitar) and Lex Allen (singer) are providing entertainment
- Kim Woods, photography services

About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination since 1865. Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. The Salvation Army tracks the level of need across the country with the Human Needs Index (Human NeedsIndex.org). Locally, approximately 87 cents of every dollar raised is used to support programs and services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.
