Golfers Hit the Links to Benefit Children's Programs
After days of torrential rain and flooding, the sun shone on The Salvation Army's 15th annual Hope "Fore" Kids Golf Classic at the beautiful Glen Club in Glenview.
More than 100 golfers came out for a fabulous day on the links, contests and a silent auction with prizes including in-demand golf trips, behind-the-scenes experiences, artwork and more.
The golf event raises funds for the Army's children's programs, including camp, after-school activities, music lessons, Head Start early education, sports and more. These programs provide children an opportunity to be a kid in a safe space - something many children from the inner city don't get very often.
"We're so grateful every year to the golfers that come out to the event," said Lt. Colonel Charles Smith, Divisional Commander. "They're here to play golf on a beautiful course, but they're really helping the children we serve. They're making it possible to feed them, give them a warm place to sleep, and give them a safe place to play. They make our work possible."
Thank you Bandon Dunes and Kemper Sports for presenting this year's event.
And a special thank you to this year's golf committee: Paul Rigby, Chair; Alan Iovine; Tom Nylen; Steve Smith; Gary Stephans; and Bruce Williamson.
