Salvation Army Response Efforts in Full Swing After Hurricane Dorian

Sep 7, 2019

As Hurricane Dorian continues its path towards Canada, Salvation Army teams from the Bahamas to the Carolinas are responding, bringing shelter, food, beverages, clean-up kits, and spiritual and emotional care to those left in its wake.

The Salvation Army is present in every zip code. making it uniquely qualified to respond immediately to disasters.

In the Bahamas:

  • Recovery efforts are in place, as government and response agencies continue looking for survivors.
  • Flooding and transportation continue to present challenges and hamper relief efforts.
  • The Salvation Army in Nassau and Eleuthera are welcoming evacuees from Abaco.
  • The Salvation Army in Freeport is providing food for local shelters.
  • All locations and staff members provide emotional and spiritual support as needed.

In the United States The Salvation Army has provided:

  • 31,620 Meals
  • 42,455 Drinks
  • 23,601 Snacks
  • 48 Clean-up kits
  • 145 Hygiene kits
  • Emotional and spiritual care to 2,879 people.

The best way to assist survivors right now is to make a financial gift. This allows The Salvation Army to purchase needed items in bulk and spend the donations locally to stimulate the economy. At this time, we are not accepting individual in-kind donations.
