’Tis the season for “Doing the Most Good,” and The Salvation Army could use your help! If you’d like to make Christmas a bit brighter for someone in need this year, please consider signing up for one (or more!) of the following volunteer opportunities:
TurkeyFest Kitchen Helper or Meal Deliverer
Each Thanksgiving Day for the past 30 years, volunteers have come together to help prepare, cook and deliver more than 1,000 turkey dinners for older adults in need across the metro. If you would like to make TurkeyFest part of your Thanksgiving tradition this year, we are looking for volunteers to help prepare and package the food in the kitchen, as well as drivers to deliver the dinners to recipients across the metro. Adopt-A-Family in Need
The Adopt-A-Family program matches community members and agencies with families and seniors in need to help make their Christmas joyful and bright. You can sign up online to adopt a family or listen live to Star 104.5 FM on December 2 & 3 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and call (402) 898-6050 to sign up.
Once you commit to sponsoring a family, you’ll shop for gifts, wrap them and then deliver the gifts to your family at a specified location and day/time.
Christmas Toy Sorting
Every year The Salvation Army receives thousands of donated toys and gifts for families and children in need around our city. We are looking for volunteers to help organize the toys so they are ready for parents to “shop” at Toyland on December 17 and 18. Red Kettle Bell Ringing
Did you know that nearly half of The Salvation Army’s total annual revenue is raised in just three months -- from October through December? That means every dollar, quarter and nickel that’s slipped into one of our red kettles makes a difference in helping us serve those most in need! Grab a friend or a family member and get in the spirit of the holidays by signing up to ring bells at one of our many metro locations.
