SOUNDS OF RINGING BELLS TO SOUNDS OF HAMMERS?!

Dec 27, 2023

PETOSKEY, MI, December 29, 2024 – It is common to hear the sound of bell ringing during the holiday season at Red Kettles located across the region, but hammers? Hammers have been pounding at The Salvation Army of Petoskey’s new Community Center located at 2350 Mitchell Park Drive since renovations commenced during the 2nd week of November. The official project end date for renovations is May 30, 2024.

The new facility addresses many issues surrounding our current Community Center. It is barrier free, has ample parking, green space for children to play outdoors and the room to expand needed programs and services. Our new commercial kitchen will be a blessing that will serve warm, nutritious meals to many hungry neighbors. There will also be a larger community room which will be able to accommodate those attending congregational meals and meetings.

The Salvation Army’s current Community Center has many issues limiting its usefulness and we recently accepted an offer to sell the property. Because the new owners are taking immediate possession of the building, staff will be relocating to the new facility by January 5, 2024. The public will not be permitted to enter the building during its renovation, however all Salvation Army services will be continued.

The Emergency Financial Assistance Program that provides heat, electricity, emergency auto repair and other services to individuals and families, will continue to operate via phone and internet appointments. The Bible Adventure Corps Program which runs daily after school for children will temporarily be relocated to the True North Church, located on Mitchell Rd. Meal Delivery and Carry Out Services will continue with the continued help of The Church of Christ.

“It is important for the public to know that although we are in a transitional period while relocating, we are still here to help people” said Envoy Roman Hank.
