The Salvation Army is responding to storms that have created severe flooding in many Chicago neighborhoods and suburban communities.
Two Emergency Disaster Services mobile canteens and crews from The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division have been dispatched so far. One canteen is in the Albany Park community of Chicago at the Eugene Park Field House at 5100 N. Ridgeway serving food and hydration to approximately 150 first responders and emergency personnel responding to the flooding The second canteen is in Elmhurst serving food and at a shelter for flood victims who have been temporarily displaced from their homes.
The Salvation Army has also opened its community center in the Mayfair neighborhood at 5040 N. Pulaski as a reception center for flood victims at the request of the City of Chicago in the event that overflow is needed for the temporary shelter set up at the Gompers Park Field House.
Additional canteens are on stand-by for immediate dispatch awaiting further requests from either the City Incident Command Center or suburban Emergency Management agencies.
