how did you first learn about the salvation army?

I met The Salvation Army in college. My now husband Trevor invited me to church and the rest is history.

What made you want to become an officer?

I have always been drawn to serving others and helping others. My degree is in Elementary and Special Education. I thought that is what I was going to do in life, but God had other plans. I was called by God to serve Him as a Salvation Army officer and I am so glad He called me.

What is your favorite part about being an officer at tsa?

I love doing life with people. I love walking alongside others. I love the pace and the diversity of Salvation Army officership, no two days are the same.

what has been your favorite experience with tsa?

I have had so many incredible opportunities as a Salvation Army officer. I have traveled places and seen things that I would never have imagined growing up in my small town in South Dakota. I would say one of my favorite experiences has been walking with a young, pregnant mom in her last week of pregnancy and being able to be at the hospital and support her and her family the day she gave birth. What a privilege to be included in this young family's important moments.

What is one thing you believe the world should know about tsa?

We are an Army of love for every single person, just the way you are.

What are a few words you'd use to describe tsa?

Hope, Compassion, Love

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Jesus loves you and so do I. When I became a Salvation Army officer, I signed my Officers Covenant. A few lines from that covenant are, "...to care for the poor, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, love the unlovable, and befriend those who have no friends." It has been my absolute privilege and honor to do that for 23 years.
