Behind the Shield: Torrence Harrell, Volunteer
Torrence Harrell is the Safety Manager at Lakeside Buses of Wisconsin. He has been a regular volunteer for our “Stuff the Bus” event of our backpack program during the Class Act Telethon with WISN12. He has been volunteering for this event since he was first asked to back in 2012. He comes back year after year because he has a great time with the other volunteers and receives joy from seeing others be happy.
Q: Why do you participate in Stuff the Bus?
A: You can’t help every kid but you can help make an impact on many people. It makes me feel like my impact matters. I only have a little to give and I want to give back more.
Q: What is your favorite part of Stuff the Bus?
A: Showing up and being present. I look forward to this event every year. There’s tons of work to do back at the office but I always take time to do this.
Q: Why do you support The Salvation Army?
A: The Salvation Army is me. They give to the community and I enjoy giving back to those in need.
Q: Is there anything you’d like everyone to know?
A: Everybody should play a part in this giving to the kids. You are making an impact in your community. It helps with their education and becoming a person in their community. Some kids that want to be in school that don’t have the supplies or tools. This can lead to children not going to school because they don’t want to get bullied. Every kid deserves a chance at a good education.
