Salvation Army Disaster Workers Respond To Apartment Complex Fire in Marquette, Michigan
Employees, volunteers serving 3 meals per day to displaced residents
MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN - The Salvation Army is assisting in Marquette, Michigan, following a fire at a 140-unit apartment complex on Tuesday, July 30.
The Salvation Army canteen was immediately deployed to the scene to provide snacks and water to emergency responders and then transitioned to serving displaced residents.
Auxiliary Captain Doug Winters, with The Salvation Army of Marquette County, said a temporary shelter is up and running at the Northern Michigan University's Superior Dome, 1401 Presque Isle Ave, Marquette, MI 49855. Inside the dome, Salvation Army staff and volunteers are serving three meals per day to about 50 displaced residents. Over 350 meals have been served in the last two days. The Salvation Army has been supported by donations from Jilberts Dairy, J.P. Electric, Meijer and Walmart.
"The apartment complex houses many residents who attend our lunch and pantry programs," Winters said. "We want to do all we can to help those who need it."
