Salvation Army to temporarily close meal program to public on weekends

LA CROSSE – The Salvation Army will be temporarily closing meal services to the public on Saturdays and after breakfast on Sundays.

Due to staffing shortages, direct meal services on Saturdays and after breakfast on Sundays will only be made available to individuals staying at The Salvation Army’s Emergency Shelter. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will continue to be open to the public Monday through Friday.

“For the past few months, we have been forced to ask 1-2 staff members to feed and supervise over 100 people all day long on Saturdays and Sundays which has proven unsustainable. With the closing, we will continue serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the 80 residents that could be staying in our shelter on any given night,” said Stacy Mitby, the Director of Social Services for The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army will still open their building for worship services on Sunday mornings during the closing. Food will be made available to both residents and non-residents at that time.

“We also have food readily available for free to community members. People are still encouraged to stop by to grab healthy food to prepare for themselves and their families while direct service is closed,” said Mitby.

For questions and concerns related to the temporary closing, community members are urged to call The Salvation Army at (608)782-6126.
