Volunteer Spotlight: Lisbeth Reynertson

Apr 11, 2023

April is National Volunteer Month and we are so excited to highlight our fantastic volunteers and thank them for their efforts all year long. Today we are shining the spotlight on Lisbeth Reynertson, a volunteer at The Salvation Army of La Crosse County for nearly 15 years. Learn more about Lisbeth's experience volunteering below!

Why did you decide to volunteer with the salvation army?

The Salvation Army is a wonderful resource and help for so many people in need in the area, and I wanted to support them.

What events and programs have you volunteered for within the salvation army?

Through the years, I have volunteered in the food pantry, served lunch in the kitchen/dining room, helped with Back to School gift handouts, Angel Tree Christmas gifts and food distribution, and the summer lunch program. I am presently serving lunches to people in the parking lot through the window every Tuesday! My husband and I also do kettle pick ups for the bell ringing before Christmas!

What has been your favorite experience while volunteering with the salvation army?

I have many favorite experiences at The Salvation Army. I loved the food pantry where we helped people get food and they loved to talk to us and tell us about problems. I found out they really appreciated someone they could talk to. Once, in February, I helped a man who told me he was living in the tent by the river! I was concerned and asked him if he was warm enough at night. He said he was because he had a very warm sleeping bag from when he was in the army. I asked him about his military experience, and he told me he was in Afghanistan and Iraq. I felt ad that he was poor and cold after serving his country for so many years! I brought him to the main office at The Salvation Army where he could some assistance. I am happy I was able to help!
