KEEP FOND DU LAC COUNTY CHILDREN SAFE & WARM

Snowman building, sledding, shoveling & bundling up are part of winter.  For those without the proper winter outerwear, so are frost bite, hypothermia, heart attack, respiratory system failure and possibly death.  Our goal is to provide children with winter outerwear in "ready to wear" condition and keep winter full of fun and warmth.

"I don't feel even feel the cold, Daddy!"

My little girl loves the snow. Every winter, after the first snowfall, we bundle up and spend the day outside. When the pandemic took my job, I stretched every penny I had for as long as I could to keep a roof over our heads. The cold weather came and the first snow fell. Melissa's coat was too small so I had to keep her inside. My friend told me about The Salvation Army. You gave Melissa a new coat and she wrapped herself in it. "I don't even feel the cold, Daddy!" We spent the day outside, building the best snowman ever.

Each fall, The Salvation Army works with schools, agencies and community to collect requests for new/used winter outerwear from families & organizes the county's largest winter outerwear distribution. Our goal is to have a coat for everyone who needs one. We do not do this alone. With thousands of requests for sizes from infant to XXXXL,  it is community support that creates a selection to serve the need.

Coats for Kids is the most widely recognized annual collection The Salvation Army of Fond du Lac benefits from. Individuals, families, businesses, churches, schools collect and donate to/during this campaign.

MARINE CREDIT UNION created a new annual WARM UP WINTER collection in 2023 w/ a challenge.   Their collection runs Oct 1 - 31, and asks for hats, gloves, mittens, boots, beanies, in addition to winter coats.  The Marine Credit Union Foundation ADDS a challenge:  The Challenge:  "Our goal is to have 2000 winter items at our location to donate to the Salvation Army by Oct.31.  If we raise 2000 items, our Marine Credit Union Foundation will donate $10,000 to The Salvation Army of Fond du Lac!" Contact:  Amy Ortega,   EAmy.Ortega@marinecu.com  W: MarineCU.com   O: 920-906-6148   L80 W Rees St | Fond du Lac, WI 5493

Model Cleaners and Georgetown Cleaners have been longstanding partners, each year donating the coat cleaning and minor repairs to ensure gently used coats are ready to wear on distribution day. In May 2024, Model Cleaners closed their doors.  We appreciate their years of dedicated service & continue to draw inspiration from their legacy as we move forward.

Monetary donations are welcome.  The Salvation Army uses donated funds to purchase coats to fill in any size gaps left after the community collection ends to ensure we have what children need.
