Service Extension

Service Extension provides support to individuals and families across 200 communities in suburban Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, and Will counties. We create and maintain a Salvation Army presence in suburban communities not currently served by a Corps Community Center, by providing emergency assistance for the body and spiritual care for the soul.

Assistance is provided through more than 100 volunteers at 60+ locations across the six-Chicagoland counties. This partnership is with local community organizations, churches, villages, townships, first responders, and service agencies.

  • Volunteers, often employees of our partner sites, interview households to assess needs and offer a combination of monetary support, in-kind gifts, and referrals through collaboration with Salvation Army and local community resources.
  • Services include clothing/household furnishings, disaster services, food, lodging, medical help, housing, transportation, utilities, Pathway of Hope, and pastoral care.

Individuals and families facing personal or economic crises can call The Salvation Army's Referral Desk at 773.205.3520.
