Red Kettle Game Sees Record-Breaking Crowd

Nov 13, 2019

On Sunday, November 10, the second annual Salvation Army Red Kettle Game brought a record-breaking crowd to the Allstate Arena. It was the highest attended Chicago Wolves game of the season to date!

Though the Chicago Wolves lost to the Rockford Ice Hogs 4-1, the crowd was enthusiastic – and generous. At the red kettles stationed around the arena, The Salvation Army received more than $550. Red kettle season officially started just two days prior on November 8.

Commissioner Barry Swanson dropped the ceremonial puck, and dozens of people competed in the chuck-a-puck contest, which had them dropping gold foam Salvation Army coins (pucks) into a large red kettle on the ice. Fans also enjoyed Salvation Army brass musicians playing Christmas music in the concourse.

This Red Kettle Game is part of an ongoing relationship between The Salvation Army and the Chicago Wolves. Jon Sata, senior vice president of partnerships and business development for the Chicago Wolves, said, “It is truly an honor to be able to help kick off kettle season with the Red Kettle Game. We’re so proud of our partnership with The Salvation Army. Red kettles are symbolic of the upcoming holiday season but, more importantly, they’re a reminder that there are many people in need and that every little bit helps. The Wolves remain committed to our community and the great work done by those associated with The Salvation Army.”

If you missed the fun at the Red Kettle Game, there’s an upcoming opportunity to get in on the Salvation Army-Chicago Wolves love. On February 15, 2020, the Wolves will host their annual Faith and Fellowship Night in partnership with The Salvation Army, spreading a message of giving by offering several hands-on service projects before the game. Mark your calendars now!
