Knowledge is a ticket out of poverty

By the end of the 4th grade, African-American, Hispanic and low-income students are already two years behind grade level.

By the time they reach the 12th grade, the same kids are four years behind.

Children in poverty have greater learning challenges

Children who live below the poverty line are 1.3 times more likely to develop mental delays or learning disabilities than those who don't live in poverty

Community Center

Our community center offers a variety of programs for youth throughout the year, providing a positive environment where they can learn new skills and gain confidence.

After School Program
Youth from all walks of life face obstacles. But those who grow and learn in structured activities and have supervision are less likely to succumb to risky behaviors. Our after-school program engages youth to learn new skills and gain confidence through tutoring in a safe environment. We even provide transportation and dinner.

Tutoring and homework help is offered daily and focuses primarily on reading (using Mission Literacy) and math. We include pre-, mid- and post-tests to measure the child’s improvement during the school year.

Additionally, children participate in enrichment opportunities including cultural dance, computers, art, choir, structured gym activities, and character development.

The after school program runs weekdays during the school year from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Day Camp
Need a safe place to send your kids for the summer? Consider our Day Camp program. We provide a fun learning environment for your elementary age children weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The program includes tutoring, enrichment activities, physical fitness and community outings to local venues such as museums, zoos and parks.

Teen Volunteers
Volunteer as a teaching assistant for After School Youth programs and Summer Camps. Take this opportunity to build employable skills including leadership, planning, support, listening, and build interpersonal relationships.

Holistic Youth Program
The Holistic Youth program consists of three parts – character development, community development and artistic expression. The character development course gives youth the opportunity to discover life skills, leadership, goals, positive relationships and talents in a safe environment. The program is run completely by experienced volunteer coaches to provide a safe, fun sports experience.
