Help Your Neighbors in Need Beat the Heat This Summer

Jun 9, 2021

As the temperature climbs, there’s no better time to help your neighbors in need keep cool. From now until June 20, we are partnering with Westlake Ace Hardware stores throughout the Omaha metro to host their annual fan drive.

You can contribute to the drive by purchasing a fan at your nearby Westlake Ace Hardware store to donate or by rounding up purchases at the register. All donations collected in the area go toward buying new box fans for the Salvation Army of Omaha.

Or, if you prefer to donate online, you can do so at westlakehardware.com/fan-drive. All donations, both in-store and online, stay in the Omaha metro.

Donating to the fan drive is one easy way to make a big difference for someone in need. A single box fan can help reduce energy costs by properly circulating air throughout a home or by helping a small window unit air conditioner cool more efficiently.

In 2020, 673 fans were donated to The Salvation Army to help hundreds of individuals and families beat Omaha’s relentless summer heat.

Fans will be distributed at the Burrows Center for Help and Hope (6101 NW Radial Hwy.) through September 3. Preference is given to adults 50 and older and those who are disabled.

Those interested in receiving a free fan should bring the following to the Burrows Center:
1. Photo ID.
2. Social Security Card or Birth Certificate.
3. Proof of address within the last 30 days.

“We are so grateful to every one of the Westlake Ace Hardware customers who contribute to the fan drive,” said Tiffanie McCowin, director of material assistance and seasonal services for the Burrows Center. “Something as simple as a fan can make a tremendous difference in the health and comfort of the elderly and others who might struggle during summer’s hottest days.”
