We support the mind, body and spirit of those seeking mental health services,
because poverty and mental illness often go hand in hand.

Nationally, nearly 1 in 5 adults in the United States suffer from mental illness, yet many live in silence due to the stigmatization and shame surrounding it.

Other challenges, like homelessness, addiction and joblessness, frequently are a result of mental illness, making paying bills and keeping up with daily life difficult.

Mental illness is a serious, real and pervasive condition, but the good news is, it is treatable.

The vast majority of adults who live with mental illness continue to function and lead productive lives when they receive the right treatment and support. We offer not only the counseling and medical attention needed to help those struggling with mental illness but also the foundational support, like a place to live, nutritious meals, life skills classes and an encouraging community, to help people get back on their feet.

The Salvation Army of Nebraska, South Dakota & Western Iowa offers mental health support through:

Residential programs

Residential mental health support programs like Mental Health Respite offer individuals with an immediate psychiatric crisis inpatient care for up to 28 days, offering the medical, psychiatric and community support needed for stabilization. We care for the mind, the body and the soul.

Community support programs

Multiple programs serve individuals who are in need of varying degrees of mental health treatment and support over a period of 90 days to one year. During treatment, program participants receive counseling, independent skills training, 24-hour access to staff and other services, with the goal of achieving stabilization, increased independence and community integration.
