The Gift of Hope
. . . that Transformed Julia's Life
When I came to The Salvation Army in Wichita, I was in such a sad, lonely and depressed state. I came from Florida with one little suit case. I had been living with a friend but they had to move into a nursing home so I came back to Wichita. I didn't know where or what I was going to do.
I called The Salvation Army and they told me they had room. They explained there were rules to follow such as looking for work, being in by 10 pm and doing chores everyday. I wondered why these rules were implemented but as I stayed and did the work and I put in the time, it all made perfect sense.
What TSA gave me was a gift! A gift like NO OTHER! A gift to start over and make it on my own two feet.
My Case Manager was such a light and breath of fresh air. I could tell she really cared. That meant the world to me and made me want to do better. I will never forget the time I finally got my apartment and my Case Manager was with me with tears in her eyes.
I now have a full time job with health care benefits and a 401k. I am living in my own place (through the Rapid Re-housing Program) and have my own vehicle! I did this all with the grace of God, Salvation Army and my wonderful Case Manager. I can never thank them enough.
Everyone, including the people that worked with me on a daily basis was so helpful. I will NEVER forget this experience.
