We provide Shelter to those in need

Emergency Shelter is provided to hundreds of men, women, and children every year. Families and others struggling to make ends meet in-danger of becoming homeless are also a primary focus. It takes is one major incident and an individual may be seeking assistance from their local homeless shelter. The Salvation Army is here to assist those individuals experiencing homelessness with a bed, three meals a day, casework, toiletries and more.

More Than Just a Shelter

The Salvation Army strives to meet our residents where they are at and to help them in their journey. With everyone who passes through our doors we welcome with arms. We want to be a place that our residents can call home until they are ready for their next steps in life. We are a place for a safe bed night.

Emergency Shelter Information

The Salvation Army of La Crosse Emergency Shelter, located at 223 N. 8th Street, La Crosse, WI 54601, provides a safe shelter for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.

The shelter is available year-round to assist those who have experienced a crisis leading to homelessness. The Emergency Shelter provides each person with a bed, linens, clothes storage, hygiene products, access to laundry facilities, and three meals each day (and snacks). During their stay, clients are also provided with intensive case management and given the opportunity to set realistic goals and work toward them. This action plan will ultimately result in permanent and affordable housing. Case Managers meet weekly with clients to determine an action plan and work towards self-sufficiency. We provided 15,884 safe bed nights in 2022 and fed over 48,973 meals.

Community support makes all this possible. Donations of supplies, dollars, and volunteer staffing help ensure the emergency shelter continues serving those in the biggest need.
