Emergency Lodge Homeless Shelter

Provided 38,859 nights of lodging provided for 1,549 individuals. The average length of stay was 64 days.

The needs of the homeless population are varied and complex. 

Since 1979, the 120-bed Emergency Lodge, located at 1730 N 7th St. in Milwaukee, has provided emergency shelter to homeless individuals and families with children. More than 80% of residents successfully move from shelter to safe, affordable housing each year.

Services include:

Resident Requirements:

  • Residents must be drug and alcohol-free
  • Each resident is assigned a primary social worker to develop an individualized plan for self-sufficiency
  • Residents must establish income, either through employment or benefits, and save 80% of their income in preparation for their move to housing in the community

Accommodations:

  • Residents stay in semi-private rooms
  • Three nutritious meals are served per day
  • There are laundry facilities available
